It’s your city—shape Gresham’s future!
We’re looking for collaborative and curious Gresham residents to join a committee with a super boring name but a really
exciting job. Whether you are a policy nerd, passionate about equity or just plain curious about how your City works, there’s a role for you to play on the City’s Charter Review Committee.
See, I told you the name was boring. But, you know what’s not boring? One single document that has all the most important rules for how our City government works—our City Charter.
Why do we have six Councilors? Because of rules in the Charter. How are these Councilors elected and how do they represent Gresham? The Charter tell us.
What does a City Manager do, and what role does the Mayor play? Check the Charter!
What special rules can the City put in place in an emergency like a wildfire? Hey, that’s in the Charter, too!
Every eight years, this Charter Review Committee reviews the City Charter and suggests what, if anything, should be changed. This goes to our City Council for review. Then, if they agree, Gresham voters get to vote on these changes. Kind of a big deal, right?
Your ideas could make a difference and improve how our City works! Here’s what you’d be signing up for:
• A temporary commitment of under one year
• Regular meetings (virtual for now). These will likely take place 1-2 times per month in the evenings. Timing and frequency to be determined by the appointed Charter Review Committee. If you don’t have access to a computer
for the meeting, we can help you!
• Interpreters available for those that speak other languages.

¿Qué hace un administrador de la ciudad y qué función desempeña el Alcalde? ¡Consulta el Estatuto!
¿Qué reglas especiales puede implementar la Ciudad en una emergencia como un incendio forestal? ¡Oye, eso también está en el Estatuto!
Cada ocho años, este Comité de Revisión del Estatuto revisa el que tenemos en la Ciudad y sugiere qué (si es que hay algo) debería cambiarse. Esto va a nuestro Ayuntamiento para su revisión. Luego, si los Concejales están de acuerdo, los votantes de Gresham pueden votar para aceptar o no estos cambios. Esto es algo importante, ¿no es verdad?

• Un compromiso temporal de menos de un año
